6U Rules 2009 Coach Pitch World Series

The intent and purpose of these rules and in fact the intent of this director and officials is to provide an atmosphere where young players are taught to play the game of softball correctly. Coach Pitch in our opinion is for the teaching and instruction of  our youngest players.  Thanks for your cooperation.

PLAYING FIELD
1. Base Distance shall be 60ft.
2. A 20ft. arc from home plate is foul territory.
3. A 30ft. mark from home plate is an area where no defensive player is allowed in until the ball is hit. Penalty: Offensive team has the choice of taking the play or batting again.
4. The 16ft. pitching circle will be drawn with a center 35ft. from home plate.
Coaches must pitch from the front of the circle in line with home plate
5. A half-way line will be marked between the bases.
The umpires ruling on whether the player was half way or not is a judgment call
6. A line 6ft. behind the bases will mark the area where outfielders must stay until the ball is hit
Defensive coaches (2 only) must remain behind this line when the ball is in play.

COACHES
1. Each team may have a maximum of 4 coaches in the dugout
2. Two defensive coaches will be allowed on the playing field behind the 6ft. line, and remain there while the ball is in play. Coaches shall remain clear of advancing runners.
1st offense draws a warning. Second offense  draws an ejection
3. One offensive coach will be allowed in the first and third coaches box.
4. Any batted ball hitting adult pitcher is a dead ball and no pitch is called.
5. Any coach touching a base runner while the ball is in play causes the runner to be called out. Other runners advance at their own risk.

EQUIPMENT
1. Shoes with rubber cleats may be worn.
No metal or hard cleats will be allowed.
2. Batting helmets with chin straps and face guards must be worn by all batters and base runners.
If a player deliberatley removes their helmet during a live play a team warning will be issued. If any player removes their helmet after a  team warning has been issued, that player will be called out
3. Catchers must wear a helmet with face guard.  Other Catchers protective equipment may be worn and face guard for player in pitchers circle is suggested.
4. NSA bat list will be the standard for this event.
5. Balls will be provided.

REGULATION GAME
1. A regulation game shall consist of  five (5) innings or one hour time limit
unless numerically eliminated by the run rule
2. If a tie exists after five ( 5) innings of play or one hour time limit, international tie breaker rule will be in effect.

OFFENSE
1. Each batter will receive five ( 5 ) pitches before being called out unless the last pitch is  fouled. It a foul is hit the batter will continue. Maximum of  seven (7) pitches. Up to fifteen (15) players may bat, if all players are in batting order and a player is lost for any reason and there is not a substitute, an out will be recorded each time their time at bat comes up.
A team may not play with less than 8 players, if the game is started with 8 then an out occurs each time the last batting spot is up. 9th player may enter after the game starts, but only in the 9th spot.
2. Bunting is not allowed
Penalty: a strike will be called on the batter
3. A player that slings the bat will be warned .
if that player slings the bat a second that player is out
4. A base-runner that leaves the base before the ball is hit will be called out
5. Assisting a runner by a team member will result in the runner being called out.
6. One (1) courtesy runner per inning, may be any roster player, but if courtesy runner is on base when their turn at bat occurs an out will be recorded.
7. No base on balls
8. Hit batters are not allowed to take a base.
9. Each team may score only  five (5) runs each inning


DEFENSE
1. Up to thirteen (13) players will be allowed on the field.
2. Infield fly rule does not apply.
3. Defensive infield  six (6) positions will be third base, short stop, second base, first base, pitching circle, catcher, each playing at usual spots for their position. The player playing the pitch position will maintain one foot in the pitchers circle until the ball is hit.
If the umpire determines that for safety reasons, the pitcher player should be moved back she may move within  three (3) feet of the pitchers circle and directly behind the pitchers circle.
4. Outfielders must remain behind the six foot line until the ball is hit.
5. When the lead runner is stopped by the player with the ball, time shall we called at the discretion of the umpire.
6. Throws attempted by players must be thrown in an overhand manner. The intent is not to bowl the ball.
Balls shall not be intentionally "rolled" overhand as well.
The offensive coach shall be given the option of taking the play or results of the play

RENTRY RULE
1. All starters may be substituted for and re-enter the game one time. Player must enter the game in the same batting order spot they were in at the start of the game.

TEAMS AND PLAYERS
1. A Team may consist of up to fifteen (15) players, all may bat, but only (13) may play defense at one time.
Twenty (20) players are allowed on a roster.
2. A players age is determined by the age that player is on January 1st of the playing year. Proof of age will be a certified birth certificate.
3. All players and teams must be SSAA sanctioned to compete.
